Strong And Powerful Denial
President Donald J. Trump explained to the international media today that he questioned Russian President Vladimir Putin about allegations related to Russian meddling in the 2016 US Presidential Election. In President Trump’s words, Mr. Putin presented a “strong and powerful denial” that Russian state representatives had a role in interfering with the election. It seems crucial to Mr. Trump’s ego to deny that his election was anything other than a product of his unique brand of genius coupled with the American force of will to elect such a genius. Let me be clear about a few issues to avoid any semblance of misunderstanding: 1. Putin and his regime wanted Trump to win the election. 2. The United States Intelligence Apparatus has meddled in foreign elections in the past. 3. The election results were legitimate and Trump was properly inaugurated into office. 4. Hilary Clinton ran an arrogant campaign and assumed that she would be ushered to her rightfully earned thrown only to prove that she was so arrogant and unlikable that she lost the election to Donald Trump….ok, I could go on but why. Let’s fast forward to the Helsinki meeting between President’s Trump and Putin. According to President Trump, he grilled his Russian counterpart about the allegations of Russian efforts to influence the 2016 Presidential Election. In Trump’s words, Putin offered a “strong and powerful denial” of those allegations. Well, if you can’t trust the word of a former KGB Chief who has murdered dissidents in the past, who can you trust. Russian President Putin (whose election validity is beyond reproach) was asked if he had compromising materials that he could use against President Trump. President Putin curtly replied “No”. If you can’t trust the word of a former KGB chief who insisted that he had nothing to do with the murder of a dissident while winking that he did and was later defended by Mr. Trump on that exact matter (google “Death of a Dissident” or “Alexander Litvinenko” if you want to learn more), who can you trust. Trust me on this, Putin’s “strong and powerful denial” and Trump’s faith in it should be regarded with the same level of confidence. When the history of Donald Trump’s presidency is ultimately written, July 16, 2018, will have a special entry. On a day when the setting called for a show of strength and resolve from an American president, Trump instead offered deference, defensiveness, equivocation and weakness.
