It’s NOT About You Mr. Trump
You don’t have to listen to a lot of the Whiskey Congress Podcast to know that I am not a fan of the 45th President. In fact, I wasn’t a fan of Mr. Trump in the late 80’s when he was just an egotistical, New York playboy and casino owner. However, today my opinion of the President hit a new low. In the face of unfavorable facts emerging regarding the death toll in Puerto Rico caused last year by Hurricane Maria, Trump lashed out at the Democratic Party. According to a study coming out of George Washington University, the official death toll from the 2017 storm was 2975. Shortly after lobbing paper towels to residents of San Juan, the President bragged about the great job done by his administration. There are a lot of things that bother me about this story. But the bigger point is that the Carolina’s are facing a major threat from another hurricane heading towards their coast. The same man that claims his administration did an “unsung” great job in Puerto Rico should be focused on the pending issue, not backtracking to defend his frail ego. As I said, I have never been a fan of “The Donald” but I would like to see my fellow Americans in the Carolina’s and Georgia get the support and attention of the President as Hurricane Florence prepares to make landfall. It’s not about you Donald. It’s about the people you are supposed to work for…and these ones actually voted for you. If you botch the federal response to this potential disaster as badly as you did last year in Puerto Rico, people who actually voted for you might actually wake up to your lies. Trust me, that will be much tougher on your ego.
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday disputed Puerto Rico’s official death toll of 3,000 from hurricanes last year and accused Democrats of inflating the figure, which actually came from an independent academic study.
Trump bristled at criticism of his administration’s handling of the Puerto Rico disaster as Hurricane Florence approached the coast of North Carolina and began to unleash fierce rains that forecasters warned would cause catastrophic flooding across a wide swath of the U.S. southeast.
The Republican president said Democrats inflated the number of dead in Puerto Rico “in order to make me look as bad as possible” but he did not provide evidence.
